How is that hand good but mine is not? (Karol)
The game is 2-2-5 NLHE, so right off the bat you know it's going to be weird. What's 2-2-5? Small blind is $2, big blind is $2 but if you want to call, that'll be $5.
Also, the game is in Aruba. Sunburnt tourists mix it up with sharky locals (some of which moved to Aruba to play poker) while their wives play roulette and check on them from time to time.
The action? Craaaaaazy.
A not-atypical hand featuring my boyfriend IC:
IC is on the button. UTG+1 min-raises to $10, there are 4 callers and then IC pushes his $150 stack into the middle. UTG+1 calls as does UTG+2. The flop is uncoordinated rags. UTG+1 bets out $150. UTG+2 calls. The turn puts a club flush draw on the board. UTG+1 bets out $250. UTG+2 squirms and calls. IC shows me his red tens and starts pulling his rebuy out of his pocket. The river is a blank. UTG+1 checks! Checks! What the hell?! UTG+2 moves all-in. UTG+1 only has about $150 left. And he folds his AJo, with no aces or jacks on the board, face up as if he's making some kind of hard laydown. Turns out, he was good! The other player had A10, had picked up a flush draw on the turn but never got there. IC triples up and goes on to run over the table, at one point hitting some ridiculous inside straight draw (no, I can't let it go) with his 7-8 when the 6 hit the turn and getting paid off by someone else who also hit their inside straight draw, except the ass end.
The game was pure madness.
So of course, when I hit top two on a 5-8-9 board, I bet it hard. And I get called by a guy who flopped the straight. How come everyone else's wacky hands hold up?
I did ok in the end when I was at a table with a young local (my brother later told me people at his table were whispering how the guy is the best player around) who kept try to bluff me when I had the nuts or something close to it.
Playing Aruba most reminded me of the NY clubs. The action is fast and loose, you get paid on your big hands but can lose to nonsense just as easily. It's nice to visit that kind of poker, but I wouldn't want to live it.

You must be referring to IC calling for and then hitting his inside straight draw.
Or are you referring to the many "how come you don't post on IHO?" messages I get YET NO COMMENTS WHEN I DO?
